Privacy & Policy

Last updated: July 2026

1. What we collect

The Keto Scan is designed to be as privacy-friendly as possible. When you scan a product, we send only the barcode number to third-party nutrition databases (Edamam, USDA, Open Food Facts) to look up product information. We do not collect or store your scan history on our servers unless you explicitly choose to create an account.

If you use the Contact Us form, we collect your name, email address, and message in order to respond to you.

2. Data we do not collect

We do not collect your location, browsing history, or any personal health information. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Third-party databases

Product lookups are made against Edamam, the USDA FoodData Central API, and Open Food Facts. Each has its own privacy policy. Barcodes sent for lookups are not linked to any personal identifier on our side.

4. API keys

If you enter API keys in the app settings, they are stored only in your browser's session memory and are never transmitted to our servers. They are cleared when you close or refresh the page.

5. Cookies and analytics

The Keto Scan uses Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregated website and feature usage — for example, how many people visit the app and which features are used — so we can understand and improve the product. Google Analytics is not used for advertising personalization in this app: Google Signals and ad-personalization signals are both explicitly turned off in our configuration, and we do not run any advertising or remarketing campaigns.

Analytics is off by default. It only runs after you actively accept it in the consent banner or in Privacy Settings (available in the navigation menu). If you decline, or take no action, Google Analytics is never loaded and no analytics cookies are set. Your choice is remembered on this device (stored locally in your browser, not on our servers) and you can change it at any time — including withdrawing consent you previously gave — from Privacy Settings. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics collection and removes Google Analytics cookies from this browser where technically possible, but it cannot remove data already sent to Google before withdrawal.

The Keto Scan does not send barcode values, product names, ingredient text, OCR-extracted text, uploaded images, or anything you type into a form to Google Analytics. Analytics data is limited to standard, aggregated technical and usage information. We do not describe this data as anonymous — Google processes it under its own privacy terms, which you can review at Google's Privacy Policy. Nothing in this section is a guarantee of legal compliance for every jurisdiction; if you have specific legal requirements, please seek your own advice.

6. Children's privacy

The Keto Scan is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
